Susan B. Anthony List Endorses Harri Anne Smith for Congress

(DOTHAN, ALABAMA)—Senator Harri Anne Smith (R-Slocomb), candidate for Congress, today received the endorsement of the Susan B. Anthony List in Arlington, Virginia. The Susan B. Anthony List was founded by a diverse group of women in 1992 to advance the role of pro-life women in the political process. Today the Susan B. Anthony List is a nationwide network of over 145,000 Americans dedicated to advancing, mobilizing and representing pro-life women in the political process. Its connected Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund increases the percentage of pro-life women in the political process.

In a letter to Senator Smith dated May 27th, SBA List president Marjorie Dannenfelser said, "As you know, the SBA List Candidate Fund believes that it is important to have women and men speak out against the atrocity of abortion. We are pleased to add you to our endorsed slate of outstanding pro-life women leaders."

"The Susan B. Anthony List is a well-respected pro-life, pro-family organization," Senator Smith said. "Needless to say, I am honored to receive its endorsement and support in my race for Congress," she added.

Although Susan B. Anthony is most well-known for helping women obtain the right to vote, she was also an outspoken opponent of abortion, referring to it as "child murder." Anthony and other early women's rights leaders were united in their opposition to abortion. She gave 75 to 100 speeches per year on women's rights for some 45 years.

Alabama's Second Congressional District is comprised of sixteen south Alabama counties, including all of the Wiregrass, part of Montgomery and all of Elmore and Autauga Counties. The district is currently represented by Congressman Terry Everett (R-Rehobeth) who will not seek re-election in 2008.
