Harri Anne Smith Receives Endorsement of John Giles

(DOTHAN & MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA)—Senator Harri Anne Smith (R-Slocomb), candidate for Congress, today received the endorsement of John W. Giles, former president of the Alabama Christian Coalition. Mr. Giles was the president of the Christian Coalition of Alabama for ten years before forming his own company, Giles Building and Loan in Montgomery. He was a high-profile leader of the pro-family, pro-life group, building it from the ground up.

Speaking in Dothan and in Montgomery, Mr. Giles endorsed Senator Smith because he said, “Senator Harri Anne Smith stood shoulder to shoulder with us every day on legislation to crack down on the expansion of gambling; protect children—born and unborn; preserve the definition of traditional marriage; actively engaged to stop the raising of taxes and fought relentlessly to protect the sacred donor list of churches,” Giles said.

Senator Smith thanked Mr. Giles for his endorsement, calling him a “friend,” and saying, “He has always stood for what is right.”

“I think what I love most about Senator Smith is—she will make tough decisions based on principle—and the heck with the consequences,” Giles added.

Alabama’s Second Congressional District is comprised of sixteen south Alabama counties, including all of the Wiregrass, part of Montgomery and all of Elmore and Autauga Counties. The district is currently represented by Congressman Terry Everett (R-Rehobeth) who will not seek re-election in 2008.
